Geographic Range: Lake Tanganyika, East Africa
Diet: Carnivorous – feed on small invertebrates, crustaceans, and plankton; in captivity, offer high-quality pellets/flakes supplemented with live or frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp.
Average Adult Size: 5-7 inches (12-18 cm)
Preferred Water Parameters: pH 7.8-9.0, hardness (dH) 10-20°, temperature 75-80°F (24-27°C)
Minimum Tank Size: 55 gallons (208 liters)
Acceptable Tank Mates: Lake Tanganyika cichlids such as Neolamprologus and Julidochromis species, Tanganyikan catfish like Synodontis multipunctatus; avoid smaller or timid fish species, provide hiding spots and territories.
