Description

Geographic Range: Endemic throughout Rio Tapajós, Rio Maués, and surrounding areas of the Brazilian Amazon basin.
Diet: D. maculatus is omnivorous by nature. In the wild, they graze on small invertebrates and plant matter. In the aquarium, they will readily accept most high quality prepared foods, such as spirulina flakes or sinking pellets. For the best quality and condition, frozen foods such as brine shrimp, spirulina brine shrimp, and daphnia should be offered regularly as well.
Average Adult Size: Males- 3.5” Females- 3”
Minimum Tank Size: 15 Gallons for a group of 6

Hardness: Prefers softer water (less that 1dH) but can tolerate up to 8dH safely

General Notes: Ideally kept as a pair or small group (6 or more). Prefers a dimly lit, well planted aquarium with plenty of hiding places. Prefers VERY acidic water for breeding conditions- can tolerate up to 7.5 pH.
