Description

Geographic Range: Endemic to many tributary systems of the Rio Orinoco throughout the Venezuelan Llanos
Diet: G. abalios is omnivorous by nature. In the wild, they sift through the substrate searching for small invertebrates and plant matter. In the aquarium, they will readily accept most high quality, fine grade prepared foods, such as spirulina flakes or small sinking pellets. For the best quality and condition, frozen foods such as brine shrimp, spirulina brine shrimp, tubifex worms, bloodworms, and daphnia should be offered regularly as well. Ideally, this fish should be offered multiple, smaller meals throughout the day rather than a single large feeding.

Minimum Tank Size: 75 Gallons for a group of 6
Temperament: Peaceful with tankmates
Recommended Water Parameters

General Notes: Ideally kept as a pair or small group (6 or more). Prefers a dimly lit tank featuring large pieces of wood or branches and a sandy substrate.
